Bartholomeus Breenbergh went to Roma in 1620 and is known for his Italian landscapes and
historical subjects. In this painting we recognize the influence that Breenbergh received from
Cornelis van Poelenburgh (1586 - 1667) another Dutch painter working in Roma.
The group of Bohemians, in the middle of the composition, remains, in reverse, the engraving
" Les Bohémiens " made by the famous French engraver Jacques Callot (Nancy 1592 - 1635)
during his stay in Firenze and already edited in Nancy when he came back in 1620.
That subject is represented with some differences and simplified.
Breenbergh, was also engraver and we may suppose that he knows the Callot's engravings
